Frank has a passion for exotic wildlife which is eloquently conveyed in his magnificent new animal portrait Strength Within. There is an intensity to the composition, which combined with technical panache means that this depiction of the stealth tiger it is uniquely arresting and makes a powerful statement in any setting.
The style is painterly and unforgiving in its brushstrokes, the pose commanding and the colour is unquestioning with its juxtaposition of classic and contemporary colour tones. This staple of wildlife painting is given a fresh new lease of life with its vibrant palette, rendering the work an entirely modern spin, and this contemporary approach is emphasized through the abstract perspective that Frank employs. Whilst we feel as though we are privileged to enjoy this fleeting moment, there is a sense of intimacy and closeness to this awe-inspiring creature captured on canvas.
A background in graphic design, advertising, and filmmaking has shaped Frank’s approach as a painter. “My career in film and advertising was part of my artistic journey, and I am forever grateful for it because it changed my perspective and the way I interpret my subject material…I am now far more partial to material and techniques that bring movement and depth of field into my work, much as you would have in a film.”
